Starting in 1986, after being honorably discharged from military service I went to work in the cabinet profession and immediately had a passion for working with my hands and building cabinets. I was then employed as a cabinet installer from 1989 – 1998 where I installed residential cabinets in approx. 4000 homes. During this time I was also actively building cabinets as Backwoods Design as side work from my garage and at times in a rented shop. In 1998 I was promoted to installation manager overseeing 13-18 installers and managing 25-30 cabinet installations daily. I was then promoted to sales and managed the account of the biggest builder in the state of Utah designing and managing the cabinets in over 1200 single family homes in 1 year and doing approx. $3 million in sales that year. This passion for the cabinet business quickly grew into a desire to include general contracting and all types of construction. From 2002-2004 I was employed as a construction superintendent for Ivory homes where I built and closed 108 homes in 2 years. With this building knowledge and experience I went on my own to pursue owning my own cabinet and construction company. In 2006 I received my contracting license and have been actively working since, receiving the contracts for installations of all millwork of 4 restaurants in Jackson Hole Wyoming along with multiple interior finish carpentry and cabinets contracts on estate homes in and around Jackson Hole requiring me to obtain a separate contractor license from the state of Wyoming. In 2006 I was contracted to manage the cabinet installation in 2 -19 story condo towers in Bellevue Washington over a 2-year period, hiring and managing 8 local cabinet installers as well as also installing cabinets, requiring me to obtain a separate contractor license from Washington state. In 2008 I was contracted to manage the cabinet installation in a condo tower in downtown Reno Nevada, hiring local cabinet installers as well as doing the majority of the cabinet installations personally, requiring me to obtain a separate contractor license from the state of Nevada. I’ve been contracted for the installation of millwork from multiple LDS temples to numerous multi-family apartment complexes along with complete cabinet installations in 11 elementary schools in and around Salt Lake City and the Uintah basin. In 2012 I received my B100 general contractor license in the state of Utah and have been doing residential remodels, addition and doing all trades “in house” (i.e. electrical, plumbing, framing, etc.) to ensure complete quality control of the project and to garner complete customer satisfaction. Since mid-2022 the building of cabinets became full-time, and the company has focused on that since. In 2023 I had the opportunity to double my shop space and purchase milling equipment and machines that would enable me to expand my services and capabilities for my customers.
